With a curved design that recalls the hull of sailboats, the Sailor Teak Collection from Royal Teak is appropriately named. Teak furniture is loved by patio furniture manufacturers, offering strength, durability, appearance and low maintenance. Many companies sell wood furniture that resembles teak, but there is truly no substitute. Teak was the primary material in shipbuilding for hundreds of years due to its ability to survive in any climate without fail. Even with its rugged properties it has a silky soft feel. Royal Teak uses A-Grade teak wood only; this type of premium wood is grown for at least 45 years, ensuring the enough natural oils and silica are present to be used in an outdoor environment and maintain its look and feel. This amount of time also allows the oil to become bonded to the wood to ensure that moisture will never penetrate. Teak wood is also very dense (40lbs. Pr. Cu. Ft. when dry) and combined with the natural oil mentioned above makes it resistant to fungus and rot and acts as a repellant to termites and insects. Many teak furniture manufacturers harvest their trees after only 10-15 years which results in a lack of oil in the wood. The lifespan of this B or C grade teak will be much shorter than teak that has grown 40+ years. Water will penetrate the wood and in as little as two years and it will begin to deteriorate and fall apart. All teak patio furniture is not created equal; just because it says teak does not mean that it will stand the test of time like A-Grade teak from Royal Teak Collection.
