Fun activities to do with your family in the Little Rock area.

Spring is just around the corner here in Little Rock, and fortunately it's been a pretty mild winter. I'm already planning a few fun family outings for when the weather gets just a tad bit warmer. These are my top five favorite destinations to take the family in Little Rock:

Little Rock Zoo. Kids love animals. Grown-ups love animals, too. An afternoon trip to the zoo is equally entertaining for everyone. Check out lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Also stop by the elephant barn and don't miss the primates, reptiles and birds. Wave hello to towering giraffes and intimidating looking rhinos. When you need a break from your adventures, grab refreshments at Cafe Africa.

Arkansas River Trail. Hike, bike or stroll along the beautiful Arkansas River. Did you know there are a total of 24 miles of trails that have been completed along the river along Little Rock and North Little Rock? While you're at it, walk across the Big Dam Bridge atop Murray Lock and Dam, which claims to be the longest pedestrian and bike bridge in the world.

Heifer Global Village. Some destinations can be both fun and educational. Take your family to the Heifer Global Village to learn about other cultures and contribute to a good cause. Interactive exhibits foster hands-on learning, where you'll find out about where food comes from and how we can avoid taking this precious commodity for granted. The Village is designed sustainably, so you'll also learn a few ways to be kinder to the environment.

Wild River Country. When I was growing up in the Little Rock area, I looked forward to my school's annual trip to this amazing water park. Now I can take my family and let them experience it! Arkansas's largest water park offers a wave pool, the Lazy River (for tubing), and awesome/scary water slides. There is also a "Tad Pool" for the little ones. Pack your sunblock and get ready for a super fun-filled family outing at Wild River Country.

March of the Peabody Hotel Ducks. Okay, so this isn't a totally spring-like outing, as the ducks are indoors and you can see them year-round. However, this is a must for families in the Little Rock area: the lobby of the Peabody Hotel features a marble fountain, and every day at 11 a.m. the famous Peabody mallards make their march through the space to swim in the fountain. At 5 p.m., the fanfare begins again as the ducks prepare to retire for the evening.

What fun activities do you plan to do with your family in the Little Rock area this spring?
