Television's Dr. Oz Re-Thinks His Stance on Tanning Beds & Vitamin D Production

For years television's Dr. Mehmet Oz has taken issue with TanGet Bronze Skin All Year Round with the Avalon 24 by ESB Enterprisesning Beds, labeling them as sources of carcinogens and causes of skin cancer. Recently it seems “Dr. Oz” is changing his position. “I am rethinking tanning beds," Oz said. "I think there is a value of UVB radiation, not just for Vitamin D but for other sources as well... I am interested in the health benefits. For some people it might make sense [to use a tanning bed].”

Why the switch? Industry experts have known for years that Tanning Beds are the most complete sources of UVB rays other than the sun, the helpful rays that jump start Vitamin D production in your body.
During the cold winter months, when many of us are stuck indoors for days and weeks at a time, we miss out on sun exposure. While UVA rays that are produced by the sun are still considered dangerous by Dr. Oz, UVB ray exposure is routinely needed in our bodies, since UVB rays attach to cholesterol molecules in your blood and convert them into Vitamin D. It seems Dr. Oz is catching up with the Tanning Bed industry, which has always considered moderate exposure during the winter months to carry many health benefits, including Vitamin D production.

How can a Tanning Bed help your body? During the winter the only source of UVB rays could be a Tanning Bed. The best source of UVB rays is the sun, but during the winter months sun exposure becomes difficult. An obvious solution is a Tanning Bed, Dr. Oz asserts, followed by food heavy in Vitamin D and vitamin pills.
