You Know Your Space Best. Build Your Own Couch!

A sectional couch is built by connecting multiple modules, or sections, together to create a single-form couch. Often, the shopper dictates the size and shape of a sectional by picking and choosing from an offering of different modules with different functions. Before playing interior designer, it’s wise to get hip to the lingo used for each building block.

START HERE:

RECLINER seats may recline manually or with a powered mechanism. Typically, a recliner seat leans back to a horizontal position and reveals a long footrest extension. A recliner seat is frequently used as an end piece, but may also sit somewhere in the middle. You’ll find some recliner modules with two armrests, some with one armrest, and others with none at all.

CHAIR seats are armless seats that are non-reclining. They are the bread and butter pieces of most sectional sofas. Normally, each chair represents one seat. Expand or contract your entertaining capacity by adding or subtracting chair pieces.

ROUND CORNER WEDGE seats are almost always armless, and they create a curve in the form of the couch. A rounded corner wedge piece usually creates an angle of greater than 90-degrees.

SQUARED CORNER seats are also armless pieces placed in the center of the couch. The squared corner module creates a corner-conducive “L” design, or two create a squared “U” design. A squared corner piece creates a sharp 90-degree angle.

CONSOLE ARMRESTS provide accessories for lounging. Console armrests usually snuggle between two seats. They range from simple, featuring two cup holders, to deluxe, with features like lighting, sound options, drink-cooling options, storage space and more.

CHAISE LOUNGE seats are designed for placement on one end or another, with either a right-side armrest or left-side armrest. They create extended seats like an outdoor chaise lounges, and they are usually long enough for an adult to lie down completely.

OTTOMAN pieces are versatile and unconnected, unlike the modules listed above. Ottomans provide a leg or footrest addition for whoever wants it at the moment. Usually, it’s the family dog.
