The EZ Drain Winter Cover System will save elbow grease & money

Do you dream of popping that air pillow on your above ground pool's winter cover? Are you sick and tired of dealing with, and running, a cover pump for the entire winter? Do you quietly complain when you are forced to drain 1/3 of your pool water so your winter cover will work properly, wasting money on both water and chemicals? If any of these complaints seem to resurface each fall season, then you must consider the EZ Drain Winter Pool Cover.

Typical winter covers rely on air pillow systems run by a pump to keep water from gathering in the middle of the winter cover, pushing the water out to the edges, providing weight to hold the cover down during the winter. Family Leisure does offer typical above ground pool winter covers along with everything you need to protect your pool during the winter. But the EZ Drain Winter Pool Cover automatically drains the rain water without any hassles and very little maintenance work.

When fall and winter arrives most above ground swimming pool owners will have to drain nearly 1/3 of their swimming pool water. Why? Ice can damage the skimmer, pump and filter systems, along with the tubes and hoses that run in and out of these systems. Many pool manufacturers recommend lowering the water six inches below the skimmer to protect from ice build-up in the components and the skimmer itself, which can easily crack when water and moisture freezes.

But when you lower the pool water the winter cover can sag down into the pool, becoming a small pond of rain water on top of your swimming pool cover. The pillow system compensates for this lack of water, pushing up the middle of the winter cover. The rain water now gathers near the side of the swimming pool on the winter cover, becoming easier to manage while providing weight to hold down the winter cover through the cold season. Obviously, this requires quite a bit of work and wasted money in both water and chemicals.

The EZ Drain Swimming Pool Winter Cover attempts to solve these maintenance issues, providing a swimming pool winter cover that automatically drains the rain water into your yard. You must maintain the water level inside the swimming pool for this system to work, so no longer will you waste 1/3 of the pool water and chemicals at the end of the swimming pool season or have to add that water back when you start up your swimming pool the following spring.

How does it work? The winter cover in this system offers a drain in the middle of the winter cover; when rain falls, the water flows through this drain in the pool cover down a tube that connects to your return fitting inside of your swimming pool. Gravity pulls the water through this hose, out the return fitting and down the external drain or filter hose. The water safely empties into the backyard through the filter hose, which will have to be disconnected from the filter. There is a screen on the top of the winter cover drain that prevents clogs in the pipe, so you will have to check this screen to make sure leaves and other debris does not back up the system. And you will have to winterize the water in your pool with something like a Winter Pool Combo Kit (pictured left); view the Winter Pool Combo Kit for 30,000 Gallon Pools here. Beyond that, there's really nothing more you need to do during the winter with the EZ Drain Winter Cover System.

Currently this system is designed for several round above ground swimming pools, and two oval above ground swimming pools. The swimming pool sizes for the round EZ Drain Winter Covers are 15', 18', 21', 24', 28', 30' and 33', while the oval versions only come in 15' x 30' and 18' x 33'. The entire system offers a drain hose, tension clips, a lock, a cable, a cable fastener, a cover connection kit, the EZ Drain Cover itself and a skimmer Ice Guard Plate to cover the skimmer on the inside of the pool, protecting it from damaging ice (the Ice Guard Plate is typically sold separately by other vendors, but Family Leisure offers this plate for free).

Sounds pretty awesome, doesn't it? No air pillows, pumps and draining of the pool water! But before you go and buy an EZ Drain Cover, you must be sure it will work on your swimming pool. There are several restrictions when it comes to these covers:

The EZ Drain will not work on pools with non-standard returns such as Muskin, Lomart and Doughboy returns, along with pools with the Aqualuminator lighting system. Pools that offer a wide mouth skimmer are currently unable to use the EZ Drain System, but that could soon change with the arrival of the wide mouth Skimmer Ice Plate. If you are reading this and own a wide mouth skimmer, give us a call and see if the status has changed (call your local store or try our national line at 877.775.3478).

If your swimming pool offers a dual return, with a return near the bottom of the pool, the lower return will have to be covered or plugged. The EZ Drain System will only work if your return fitting is at least 24" above the ground, and the return fitting itself is a certain size. Be sure to check to see if the thru wall return fitting is compatible with the EZ Drain System before you make a purchase. How do you check the size? Remove the locking ring, ball and ball seat of your return fitting. Check the fitting for 1-1/2" female threads; if you have this size, you can use the EZ Drain System.

Imagine a hassle-free winter, with rain water and melting ice draining automatically into your yard from the top of your swimming pool winter cover. The EZ Drain Pool Winter Cover will make this a reality. Family Leisure offers free nationwide shipping on all pool supplies. Why drive to get your chemicals?
